Ok, as far as New Years resolutions go, I have never been smart enough to make one that will actually stick - this year will be different. Starting Monday 10th January 2011, Mondays will officialy become Musical. My Mum and I will be watching, rating and ranking a different Musical every Monday.

Ok, now this week..
This Monday was Cliff Richards turn again (I swear this is all drawn out of a tin!) We're all going on a...
I have grown up with this film, and have lost count of the number of times I have watched it, which was probably proven by me (and mum!) singing along to every word at the top of our lungs last night!
There isn't really one bad thing I can say about this film, well OK, the cheesy cringy moment of Cliff declaring his love, loud (and long) and clear in the middle could definitely have been left out. Oh, and the weird way they get out of the French court when pulled over for carrying passengers, but other than that I love it! I love the songs, I love the clothes, well the girls dresses, not Cliffs amazing string vest (shudder), I love the bus (who wouldn't want to travel across Europe in a kitted out double decker London bus?) I love it all!
Four London bus engineers kit out a bus to travel to the south of France for their Summer Holiday - simple and uncomplicated right? Wrong, not long after getting to France, the boys mange to run three beautiful girls off the road. Now, I don't know when MOT's became a must, but the girls car definitely would not have passed it! The girls need to make it to Athens for a show - of course, they sing. After a quick decision to change destination the girls climb on board and never look back. Throw in a stow away boy (who is actually a famous American girl singer) picked up in Paris, a company of mime artists, a power and fame hungry mother, some confusion in Yugoslavia between bride and bread and a mad dash to make it to Athens in time to be arrested for kidnap and you have the perfect Summer Holiday right? Oh and with four guys and four girls on board - there is just the right number to all pair up and fall in love.
What can I say - brilliant - Love it!

So Far Behind...
Eeek, I am so far behind with this blog. Right, time to catch up!
Last week we watched The Young Ones,
The film tells the story of a youth club who's members are trying to stop a millionaire property tycoon from buying up the club and tearing it down. To stop the club from being taken away from them, the members decide to fight back and need to raise the money to stop the millionaire, so, how do you do it? How'd you do what? How do you put on a show? That's right the members of the youth club long to sing and dance, and are actually quite good at it. When the theatre they have chosen to use, gets bought up by the millionaire they decide to get serious and secretive. By using a pirate radio station they broadcast the dreamy midnight mystery singer to drum up interest in the show, but don't reveal the venue until the day of the show. As soon as the day comes and the venue details are released the millionaire jumps straight on it and moves in to buy out the theatre. A number of the members decide to go after the millionaire to rough him up a little, this causes the star of the show, the mystery singer (who is of course, Cliff) to step forward and defend his father - the property tycoon, after the really really bad fight scenes father and son hug and make up, causing dear old dad to decide to build the youths a whole new youth club, Yey!
There a few catchy tunes in this one, but a good few cringe worthy moments too!

Sneeky extra....
Along with owning a silly amount of DVDs, I also rent via the post - this week this landed on my doorstep, and as it fits nicely within my musical rules I have had to add it in (although technically we watched it on a Friday, not a Monday)
So, another Disney film, not that anyone could ever get bored of Disney (also went to see Tangled this week - maybe I should include that here to?)
This is a modern twist on the classic fairytale where a Princess kisses a frog and he turns into the prince she has been searching for, although this doesn't quite happen in this film, in true Disney happily ever after style the main heroine Tiana - a waitress, not a princess - does get her prince in the end.
Based in New Orleans we meet Tiana, a feisty young girl who believes that the only way you get anything in life is through hard work and not wishing - especially upon a star. Her dream is to own her own restaurant in memory of her father, and she is working two jobs to get there. Enter Prince Naveen, fresh of the boat from being cut off my his parents, penniless and loving the jazz scene, his only aim is to marry a young girl who's daddy can provide the type of lifestyle he has become accustomed to. The naive young prince is intercepted by the shadow man, who of course, offers him everything he wants - but actually leaves him as a frog and turns Naveens man servant into Naveen as he is far easier to manipulate.
After Tiana has her dream of her restaurant ripped form her she is desperate enough to turn to the stars, when she looks down Prince Naveen, in frog form, is ready with puckers lips (do frogs even have lips??) after a little persuasion, Tiana believes there is nothing to loose and kisses Naveen - but Tiana is only dresses as a princess for a party which means she does not have the power to change Naveen back - in fact the opposite happens and Tiana is transformed into a Frog.
A complete adventure ensues mainly in the bayous of Louisiana to return themselves back into humans, along the way they meet a jazz trumpet playing alligator called Louis, a dopey but adorable and film stealing firefly by the name of Ray and a blind conjurer Mama Odie. Thanks to its sitting this film has a brilliant jazzy, toe tapping soundtrack that really works with the film and moves it along. This was my first viewing of this film and I loved it, the heroine is feisty and modern yet still manages to fall in love and get everything she never knew she wanted or needed! Disney have definitely done it again it lifted my heart and made me believe in magic all over again, I think I will have to add it to my DVD collection!
Oh and Tiana is voiced my one of the dreamgirls - so man can she sing!
